CCC Camps in Arkansas
The CCC was nationally divided into nine districts. Arkansas was in the 7th District with headquarters in the Federal Building in Omaha, Nebraska. The Arkansas state headquarters were located in Little Rock. Administration was strengthened by the addition of subdistricts, which were located in Arkadelphia, El Dorado, Little Rock, and Russellville.
In Arkansas, most enrollees were initially sent to Army Camp Pike (later called Camp Joe T. Robinson) in North Little Rock for initial processing. At Camp Pike, enrollees were assigned to CCC camp sites across the state. The first CCC camp established in Arkansas was at Crystal Springs (F-5) in Montgomery County. The number of camps in Arkansas varied and it was common practice for camps to be abandoned, reoccupied, or for companies to be relocated. Throughout the nine years of CCC activity, at least 14 companies from Arkansas were stationed in other states, and a number of external companies were stationed in Arkansas.
The following tables provide an inventory of camp names, projects, dates of occupation, archaeological site designation, and identified company newsletters. Summaries of each camp and affiliated camp features can be found in: The Civilian Conservation Corps in Arkansas: From Active Camps to Archaeological Landscapes, Arkansas Archeological Survey Research Series No. 71 (2026).
